spring feels happy…
the bright florals and the promise of more daylight is enough to make anyone smile.
when designing this year’s spring crown, i remenisced about my time living in london — the city comes alive this time of year. from the historical gardens all over the country to the famed chelsea flower show. florals are the mascot of a city happy to relish in their gardens.
to bottle this particular happiness in a crown, i’d need a special fabric — enter liberty london.
(a short history for those of you who might be new to liberty london fandom & appreciate a bit of art history…)
since its debut in 1875, the luxury goods department store has boasted beautiful kitchen wares, beauty counters, furniture and fabric. liberty offered never before seen luxury silks and fabrics imported from asia and the middle east which made for incredible custom make options. the owner of liberty was already on a mission to make fabric in house as good as what was imported and by the 1930s, the legendary tana lawn cotton was born. by the 1950s, liberty had created an in-house design team who created the heritage line of floral patterns. famed for it’s incredibly soft and durable make up, the cotton feels like silk and the patterns are easily recognizable the world over.
relying on a london-based friend, she picked up the fabric from liberty and brought it with her earlier this year. thank you, abbey!
both the raspberry and peacock colorways are available as a limited edition crown.
featuring a lovely asymmetrical floral design on the inside, the liberty fabric shines here as a burst of happy florals which are mimicked on the outside. with the same asymmetrical hand embroidery, the threading is perfectly matched to the pattern to bring the artistry of this crown forward.
head to the shop now and pick up the perfect celebratory crown — for all the spring babies who will undoubtedly love the magic of the libby crown for years to come.
